20 million meals by 2020 – GO KFC !

3000 Children die every day mainly in early infancy, due to poor diet! That’s what a statistic says about our country!

I am currently in a phase of life where nutrition for my two kids is always on the top of my mind. One day of my elder one not eating properly triggers my anxiety and upsets me to no bounds. The above statistic pained me to no end that in an era when our country is foraying into advance scientific projects launching satellites and missions to other planets we as a nation are still struggling for something as basic as a square meal for every citizen.

Among many initiatives taken to fight hunger by governmental schemes and non-governmental programs, one that has stood out and brought a visible impact in fighting hunger is KFC’s addHOPE campaign.  addHOPE is KFC’s global initiative for creating awareness and raising funds to provide meals for underprivileged children. In India, KFC has partnered with credible institutions such as Smile Foundation, India Food Banking Network (IFBN) and ResponseNET (Delhi & Gurgaon Food Banking Network).

The addHOPE program recently marked its first anniversary where Bollywood actor Tanisha Mukerji joined in the celebrations with children from Toward Future School. Tanisha, through Smile Foundation has been supporting a meal program for 75 children. “Each one Feed one. If you cannot feed many, start with atleast one.” This is what Tanisha had to say, when asked about her motivation behind her association with the addHOPE program. addHope in all has reached out to 10,300 children with almost 33 lakh meals in last one year.  It was heart-warming to watch Tanisha shake a leg with the kids from the Smile Foundation. Later Tanisha also volunteered while the meals were served to the kids.

“Our collaboration with KFCs addHOPE campaign is our effort to join the movement towards ending world hunger. We are feeding 1700 children every day across the country. The aim is to provide 20 million meals to children by 2020”, said Mr. Santanu Mishra, Co-founder and Executive Trustee, Smile Foundation.

The meal served to the children is wholesome and all nutrient inclusive. It is addHOPE’s endeavor to ensure that the kids being fed do not suffer from malnutrition.  The employees and consumers across the country continue their quest against hunger by contributing towards the program. Currently KFC’s addHOPE along with various partners is feeding children across 51 locations including the metro and capital cities.

One can contribute to addHOPE by just adding Rs 5/ – to their KFC bill. It’s just Rs 5/- but significant enough to add a smile to this world! (next time you pay your Rs 100/- plus bill @KFC, don’t forget to spend this additional five)

I have not been to KFC for months now, but will remember this the next time I visit. 🙂 It’s a good initiative. Hope other outlets like McD too join in for such efforts.

Launched in May this year, add HOPE™ is KFC’s long term commitment to fighting hunger in the country. add HOPE™raises funds to provide meals to India’s underprivileged children through beneficiaries like World Food Program (WFP) and India FoodBankingNetwork (IFBN) and Responsenet associated feeding programmes nationally. Together with these organisations, KFC aims to provide 20 million meals to underprivileged children by 2020.
