Book Blurb – It’s A Mom Thing Kickass Parenting
It’s a war out there, and the kids are winning. They can download apps on your smartphone with deceptive ease, tell you who the Greek goddess of wisdom is and how to do a back-heel nutmeg (don’t ask). How is one ever to catch up, let alone get the upper hand? It’s a Mom Thing: Adventures in Parenting presents anecdotes from a mother and offers a light-hearted look at her parenting journey. The main protagonists are the mother, her two cheeky daughters, aged nine and eleven, and her long-suffering husband. Parenting is a veritable minefield in this household. Backchat, bad jokes and mischievous gleams in the eyes, pre-teen hormones and emotional meltdowns (of the parental variety) pop up frequently. Every day is fraught with danger. Revealing the affectionate, yet tumultuous relationship between the mother and her daughters who are growing up fast, the book falls in the parenting humour genre.
Book Review – It’s A Mom Thing Kickass Parenting
If you are tired of reading those parenting self help books, telling you how to raise kids without losing your head, or how to make sure that your kids grow up to be emotionally balanced people, this is the book for you. ‘It’s a Mom Thing Kickass Parenting’ comes to you in the form of a first hand narrative of a mother about her life with two pre-teen daughters. She narrates mundane incidents in her life as mother with innate humor that I was forced to look back and recognize the beautiful mom-child moments in my own life.
That’s not it! She whines over the smart whiz kids her daughters are growing up to be, despite all their fallacies. At the same time, she beams with pride that she has been able to raise two readers. She is shocked that her girls have taken after their father where their love for numbers and sports is concerned. And rakes her head to figure out how she could deal with the girls’ demand to have a pet in the house.
If you read enough between the lines, you will find the subtle parenting lessons that the author Sathya Ramaganapathy leaves for you. But in no way they take the preachy tone. Instead they leave you with enough food for thought and find your own way to achieving a goal that has been set infront of you. For example, one chapter in the book is dedicated to the different tone that we as parents use with our kids. Not deviating from her humorous tone, Sathya iterates the high and low, the sarcastic and threatening tones she used with her girls in different situations to deal with varied problems. But there are undernotes (only if you chose to pay attention) about the disadvantages or not of a particular kind of tone when used with kids.
It’s A Mom Thing – Kickass Parenting makes for a refreshing read and enticed me enough to lookup for Sathya Ramaganapathy’s blog website for the future.
